Genlec’s Kingston product uses natural gas fuel, the same as conventional boilers. It converts some of the heat from combustion into electricity through the use of an organic Rankine cycle. This is a module similar to a refrigerator operating in reverse.

A fluid is pressurised and evaporated before passing through a scroll expander attached to a generator. It is this part of the process that produces the electricity. The fluid then passes into a heat exchanger where it condenses passing its heat into the home heating circuit for either the radiators or hot water cylinder:- (Click image for a larger version)
